Do you want fresher, clearer skin with minimal downtime? Then our new Fraxel Dual is right for you. Fraxel improves skin texture and tone, reduces sun damage and pigmentation, and softens lines and acne scars. One to three 30 minute treatments are usually all that are required. Strong numbing cream applied an hour before treatment eliminates discomfort. Unlike original Fraxel, the Dual effectively targets both the surface and the deeper layers of the skin for superior results.
Benefits of Fraxel treatments:
- Improved tone and texture
- Reduction of mild to moderate wrinkling, especially in the 30-50 year age group.
- Reduced sun damage and unwanted brown spots
- Improved appearance of acne scars and surgical scars
- Improved skin on the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs and back.
Fractional lasers are generally NOT recommended for capillaries or redness, which are better addressed using a targeted vascular laser, or for very deep wrinkling or wrinkles associated with volume loss and sagging, which are better addressed using more aggressive treatments or surgery.
What are the advantages of the Fraxel Dual system?
- The Fraxel Dual uniquely incorporates two laser systems with wavelengths 1550 and 1927.
- 1550: this wavelength penetrates deeply in to the skin, specifically targeting concerns such as wrinkles and acne scarring.
- 1927: this wavelength effectively targets tone, texture, pigmentation and other more superficial signs of aging.
- Essentially, the Fraxel Dual treats pigment problems, brown spots, brown sun damage better than traditional Fraxel. Its effect on melasma is still in question so be careful and sceptical if that is your main problem. The Dual is also the preferred treatment for larger areas like a sun damaged chest, arms, legs, or back.
- Each treatment is tailored to maximise the desired outcome, whilst paying careful attention to patient skin type. In some cases, both wavelengths are combined for optimum result.
How does it work?
Fraxel treatment uses patented fractional technology to target damaged skin with microscopic laser columns of energy that penetrate deeply into the skin. Because the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, leaving the surrounding tissue untouched, healing occurs rapidly. Fraxel stimulates your body’s own natural healing process, encouraging it to replace old damaged cells with fresh, glowing healthy skin.
When do results appear and how long do they last?
The results are both immediate and progressive. Soon after the treatment the surface of your skin will feel softer and smoother, look brighter and show a more even tone. The next 3 to 6 months will bring more improvement as the deeper layers of the skin continue to create new collagen. Results are long lasting depending on your lifestyle, age, skin condition and home skin care regime.
How many treatments will I need?
Three to five treatments, approximately 3-8 weeks apart. This time frame and treatment structure allow for complete healing and the production of new collagen and elastin to replace damaged tissue. An estimate will be given to you at your consultation. The number of treatments is determined by the extent of your sun damage, acne scarring or wrinkles. Gradual improvement occurs with each treatment.
What should I expect after treatment?
Depending on the level of your treatment, you may experience redness and/or swelling which diminishes as quickly as the next day or over the next several days. Treated pigmentation will look darker and your skin will naturally bronze over the next week or two. As you continue with the treatment sessions, the sunburned-to-bronzed appearance will repeat after each treatment. As with sunburn, your skin will flake and exfoliate normally, revealing fresher, glowing and smoother looking and feeling skin. See Pre and Post Treatment Instructions
Does a Fraxel DUAL treatment hurt?
Most patients describe an increased sensation of heat during the treatment. To minimise discomfort, topical anaesthesia is applied before the procedure and cold air is used on the treatment area during the procedure. After the treatment, most patients feel like they have a sunburn, which usually diminishes in 1 to 3 hours
Contraindications for treatment
Reasons not to do a fractional laser treatment may include history of bleeding disorders, pregnancy, active infection or skin eruption like Rosacea, having used certain oral acne medications within the last 12 months or having vitiligo. Optimum results depend upon your body’s capacity to manufacture new collagen. Smokers should be aware that smoking compromises this ability. Therefore results may fall short of those achieved by non smokers.
Is Fraxel safe?
Fraxel treatment is a safe option backed by extensive research. Of course, as with any laser procedure there are always some risk and/or downtime. Your clinician will discuss your expected course of recovery during your consultation.
What are the risks?
Potential side effects and risks include prolonged redness, swelling, infection, pigmentation changes (either darker or lighter), scarring, activation of pre-existing herpes (cold sore) infection and acne flare ups. Patients prone to cold sores may need to commence antiviral medication prior to treatment.
Please inform us if you are taking anticoagulants to thin the blood or medication that makes you sun sensitive, have a history of keloid or abnormal scarring, are an uncontrolled diabetic in whom healing may be compromised, are immune suppressed or have a connective tissue disease.
Other forms of skin rejuvenation include chemical peeling, dermabrasion and surgery. Each involves its own set of potential risks and complications.
