How does the laser work?
The laser will beam highly concentrated light into the hair follicle where it is absorbed by pigment in the hair root. This process heats and damages the follicle, destroying its ability to grow new hair. The light has no effect on your surrounding skin, leaving you with skin that is silky smooth and hair free.
IPL or laser?
In this case, the laser is definitely the best treatment method.
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is an inferior tool for hair removal because it lacks the single concentrated wavelength precision that a true laser has. IPLs, unlike lasers, produce beams of light that are made of many different wavelengths. Only a fraction of these wavelengths have any effect on hair growth, which means that treatment with IPL is only partially effective. Lasers on the other hand, will emit the light of just one wavelength that is 100% active in the hair follicle. A less effective treatment means that many more sessions will be needed using IPL, resulting in more unnecessary cost for you.
Since IPLs produce a broad spectrum of light, they expose the skin to random and unnecessary wavelengths which can increase the risk of damaging side effects.
It is important to be aware that the term “Laser Hair Removal” is commonly applied both to IPL and to laser hair removal. Be sure that you check carefully before committing to a less effective treatment.
All of our treatments are performed using the latest LightSheer Duet laser which features an extra-large spot size that can offer you some unique benefits:
Precision. This laser selectively targets dark, coarse hairs while at the same time leaving your surrounding skin undamaged.
Speed. Each laser pulse takes a fraction of a second and treats many hairs at the same time. Small areas such as the upper lip can be treated in seconds, though it will take additional time for large areas, such as the back or legs.
Affordability Shorter treatment times mean reduced costs. Prices for laser hair removal start at just $56
Predictability. Ninety percent of our patients have permanent hair loss after an average of three to six sessions.
Comfort New suction-assisted technology minimises discomfort in large areas such as backs, chests and legs. You won’t have to worry about using messy numbing creams.

What results can I expect from laser hair removal treatment?
With our laser hair removal treatments, you can expect an 80-95% long lasting reduction in hair regrowth. Thicker and darker hair responds best to these treatments, while scattered hairs may continue to grow, albeit in a finer, lighter and slower form. Some hair follicles may recover from the laser injury over time. Occasional maintenance treatments may be needed at infrequent intervals over the years. Our treatments have been particularly effective and renowned for removing unwanted thick hair for men.
What does laser hair removal treatment involve?
Your practitioner will perform test patches at each of the areas that you want to treat, using a range of settings that are computer-customised according to the colour, thickness and location of your hair, as well as your skin colour. We will watch the area for several minutes to make sure the best settings were used and to check for unwanted reactions. We will review the results of these test patches after a few days and use them to determine the most effective and safest settings for you.
A cold gel (similar to ultrasound gel) is sometimes spread over the treatment area to help keep your skin cool and comfortable and to help focus the light beam. Numbing cream, chilled air or ice can be used to ensure that you are comfortable. Special protective eyewear is worn throughout the procedure. The laser beams are emitted as controlled flashes or pulses. These flashes and pulses will heat your hair at its root in the follicle, thus interrupting its regrowth cycle. These damaged hairs are expelled from the follicle over the following week or two.
When the laser hair removal procedure is completed, you may be given ice packs, anti-inflammatory creams or lotions, or cold water to ease any discomfort that you are experiencing.
Laser hair removal treatments are scheduled at 4 to 8 weekly intervals until your hair stops growing. The laser beam intensity is increased at each visit in response to your skin’s tolerance.
Is laser hair removal suitable for everyone?
Laser hair removal works best for those with black or brown hair and fair to olive skin. Hair that has insufficient pigment, such as red, blonde, white, dyed or grey hair, responds poorly and is often better suited to electrolysis. Darker skin can be treated, but only with a great deal of care.
How many treatments will I need?
The lasers work to disable hairs that are actively growing at the time of treatment. Because hairs are continually rotating through a cycle of active growth, rest, and dying, not all hairs are vulnerable to treatment at any one time. Therefore, repeat treatments are needed to catch each hair in its growth phase.
Results therefore accrue over a course of treatments spaced over a number of months. The exact number of treatments is dependent on factors such as hair thickness and colour, skin colour, hormones, general health, medications, and heredity. An average course would involve 6 or more treatments.
What is the interval between treatments?
Your facial hair can be treated at 4-6 weekly intervals while your body hair can be treated at 6-8 weekly intervals. This is due to the fact that hair grows at different rates on different parts of your body. Our facial hair removal has been effective for both men and women.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Laser hair removal is not considered to be a particularly painful process. The Lightsheer laser features a dynamic super cooling device that helps soothe and protect the skin. Chilled air, ice and numbing cream are also available to you if needed. New suction assisted technology and a large spot size mean that treatment over large areas are usually well tolerated without a need for additional anaesthesia.
How do I prepare for my treatment?
To prepare for your treatment, trim your hair as recommended in the section “Preparing for your Laser Hair Removal.” If you need help with this preparation, we can provide you with a preparation service for a small fee.
How do I look after my skin after treatment?
Recovery and downtime
For a day or two after your treatment, the treated area of your skin might look and feel like it’s sunburnt or bumpy. In this case, cool compresses and moisturisers can help. You can wear makeup the next day.
Over the next month, your treated hair will fall out. Remember to wear sunscreen for the following month to help prevent temporary changes in the colour of your treated skin.
Are there any risks?
As with any laser skin procedure, laser hair removal carries some risk of redness, swelling, or itching. Blisters are rare but are more likely in people with darker complexions. Permanent scarring or changes in skin colour are rare but possible.
