Preparing for your procedure:
As with any injection some degree of bruising is to be expected. This may take 1-3 weeks to resolve.
A few simple strategies may help reduce this risk and therefore render your treatment more comfortable. Some patients like to take Arnica for a few days prior to and for a week or so after their treatment. Hirudoid or Lasonil creams can be purchased from any pharmacy and application of these several times a day will accelerate resolution of any bruising that does occur. Aspirin, arthritis medications, high doses of Vitamin E, garlic supplements and some herbal supplements such as gingko biloba will increase the risk of bruising and should be suspended a week or so before your procedure if possible.
Two Panadols taken about an hour before your treatment may increase your comfort. Laughing gas is available for use during your treatment, but is rarely needed.
Lipodissolve is not a miracle cure for obesity. It is a non-invasive treatment for subtle contouring of localised fat deposits. We therefore advocate a holistic approach to weight control and recommend that patients follow a sensible diet and exercise regime during the course of their treatments and beyond. Such a regime will not only prolong the improvement you will achieve from your treatment but will also improve the quality of your life and health in general. Dietary advice is available on request.
After your procedure:
You will probably experience some discomfort, itchiness, localised heat and/or swelling. Rest, cool compresses (frozen peas work well) and Panadol will help relieve any unpleasant sensations. Discomfort usually peaks about 45 minutes after the procedure however this may vary and has occasionally been reported to peak up to 24-48 hours following the treatment. Residual soreness, heat and swelling may persist for a few days but may be reactivated beyond that time by exercise. This is because increased blood flow induced by exercise tends to encourage circulation of the medication and metabolites through the fatty deposits. This is in fact a desired outcome and regular sessions of light exercise are highly recommended during the week following your procedure. Common sense would suggest that excessive exercise should be avoided on the day of the procedure. Discomfort and swelling may be minimised by use of a compression garment worn immediately following the treatment and for 24 hours a day for up to 5 days afterwards. Pressure garments are available for purchase from the practice.
Red lumps may persist over the treated area for a few days. These represent collections of medication being absorbed into the fatty tissue and are an acceptable part of the treatment process. Persistent itch may respond to an antihistamine that can be purchased over the counter at any pharmacy.
As initial discomfort subsides, regular light massage of the area will accelerate the breakdown of fat cells. If possible, gently massage the area for 5mins as often as possible between treatments. Follow a healthy, low carbohydrate diet and drink lots of water or juice to the help eliminate metabolites and fat.
