    Laser Hair Removal Aftercare Instructions

    • Keep the area clean by washing gently twice a day with a soap or gentle cleanser.
    • Some degree of redness, tenderness and/or minor swelling for a day or two after treatment is normal. In rare cases blistering can occur. These usually resolve without intervention but it is important not to irritate the healing skin.
      • Cool compresses may be soothing.
      • Avoid products containing scents, exfoliants, AHA (glycolic or lactic acid) or Vitamin A products (Retin A, Stieva A)
      • Do not scrub aggressively.
      • Do not shave the area.
      • Avoid hot showers or spa baths, or heavily chlorinated pools.
      • Avoid excessive aerobic exercise.
      • Do not apply makeup until skin settles.
    • DO NOT SUNBAKE or use tanning beds throughout the course of your treatments, as the treated area may be more vulnerable to sunburn or pigmentation changes. Ensure you use an SPF 30 sunscreen daily and reapply regularly.
    • If crusting occurs, apply a thin film of antibiotic ointment eg Bacitracin or polysporin, twice a day. Do not pick as this might introduce infection that can lead to scarring.
    • If infection occurs an antibiotic will be prescribed by one of our doctors.
    • It is normal for treated hairs to be slowly ejected from the hair shaft for 10-14 days after treatment.  These hairs are not growing but are simply being released from the shaft.
    • If excessive swelling occurs a low strength cortisone cream is recommended. Dermaid can be purchased over the counter at any pharmacy.
    • Retreatments should be scheduled at 4-6 weeks for facial treatments and 6-8 weeks for body treatments. This ensures the maximum number of hairs will be in their active growth phase, thereby ensuring a more effective treatment.
